GRATITUDE
August 18, 2022
I lived in Chicago for many years and I was a big fan of Oprah during those years. Oprah is a big proponent of a gratitude journal. I can’t say she was able to influence me - I didn’t develop a gratitude practice back then.
Fast forward a few years and I was ready. I started with simply jotting down three things I was grateful for each morning. I still maintain this practice today. Often, it’s a family member, something about the season, and something specific to the day’s activities.
I’ve learned to reflect on the things for which I’m grateful. It makes a big difference to start the day reflecting on the goodness in life and to generate some positive energy.
As interesting is to reflect on unanswered prayers. Reflecting on the things that don’t go well or don’t come to fruition. Sometimes it means making a deliberate choice to look for the good that will come from a challenge.
A gratitude practice helps you reflect on the best things in your life. Over time it will help you be more appreciative of the blessings in your life and will bring you more joy. Other benefits include:
- increase feelings of happiness and positive emotions
- improve emotional consistency
- foster hope in the future
- reduce stress
- increase resilience
What are you grateful for?
NAME 3 THINGS YOU'RE GRATEFUL FOR. THEN DO IT AGAIN TOMORROW. AND THE NEXT DAY.
